40mm (~1 1/2") wide by 1 meter (~39") long by 2.5mm thick woven felted stainless steel fabric.
This is ideal for high temperature packing, fixturing, or lathe tape. It is ready to use having been specially processed and prepared for the lampworker. Made of stainless steel it is reusable many times and will outlast any other tape or packing material currently available.
It is an ideal replacement to cardboard sleeve roll ups or fiberglass tape bundles used as packing material when holding objects prior to sealing. It tolerates glass working temps without outgassing and leaves no residue. It grips the glass very well without loosening, compressing, or taking a set, during use.
If need be you can leave the packing in place for the annealing cycle. Place your still hot project directly into the oven with the packing still in place. Later when the annealing cycle is complete and the oven is cool, remove the undamaged packing for use another day.
With appropriate cleaning to remove any oxidation, this can be silver soldered, brazed, and spot welded. Soft (low temp) soldering is not recommended as low temp solder melts under glass working temps. Adhesives of any kind are not recommended as all adhesives tested so far will outgas or fail long before this material reaches it's maximum working temp.
If need be, this can be wired in place using thin brass or stainless steel wire.
